Basic Training for Couples Success Stories
Anthony and Vanessa – have been together for nine years. They were challenged with overcoming the stresses that sometimes result from blended families. Vanessa’s older children have a different father, and there was no intent by Anthony to marry her. They were content to cooperate financially, but when they were made aware of the benefits of marriage for all concerned, they married. The couple says that the Basic Training for Couples workshop was the “main factor” in their decision to wed and Vanessa says that learning to communicate better was what really did the trick for them.
Lamont and Tanya – by all accounts, Lamont was the most challenging individual that this curriculum had ever encountered. He would sit in sessions, absently and distractingly watching his hand–held DVD player, and ignoring the facilitators. But after weeks of solid information and expert instruction by facilitator, Robert Jones, and serious admonitions by Tanya, Lamont got involved. Now, he and Tanya have married and blended their large family into a team of activists in what is called the marriage movement. Basic Training works!!!
Genevieve and Mike – this mature couple, each on their second marriage and the parents of five sons between them, have become the marital example and spiritual fulcrum of a committed cadre of family activists in Washington. After hearing of Basic Training from friends, they enrolled, completed the training and became a maven couple and qualified facilitators of the curriculum. Willing to travel coast–to–coast to gather information for couples and families to grow stronger, Mike and Genevieve are known and loved best here at home in Washington, DC.
Damon and Sandra – met in a romantic first encounter on an escalator in a DC Metro subway station and came to Basic Training shortly after. They exemplified the inspiring possibilities of properly blended families. Their adult children have supported them in their creative expression of the principles found in the curriculum. Damon credits Basic Training for his eagerness and readiness to wed Sandra.
